This is the third album by The Pierces and its polished edge and dark tones show it. Catherine Pierce (the blonde) has a voice perfectly attuned to every beat and nuance. Her sister Allison is not a bad singer either, and together their folksy harmonies remind me of avant-garde country music from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” with hints of R&B. Even the lyrics are tongue-in-cheek if slightly repetitive.
I recommend “Secret” and “Boy In A Rock And Roll Band,” as examples of their playfulness. Somewhere, Gwen Stefani is wishing she were this good.
