This band is really one man: Dallas Green, lead singer from Alexisonfire (a rock band). Anyone would say that a rocker putting out an acoustic album is a rare move. Unlike any other rocker, Green has really pulled off a full-fledged acoustic album that seems all the more powerful because it’s stripped of everything but his voice and his guitar.
The music here allows for flaws in voice and instruments, and it’s that inherent imperfection that makes this album so unique. I won’t deny that there are times when the song writing seems trite or Green’s voice a little too earnest and needy, but as a whole it’s a beautiful piece of work. My absolute favorite from this album is “Day Old Hate.” It’s the sort of song that could be called shoegaze if it weren’t so hopeful. And what makes it hopeful are the inflections of Green’s voice. This man doesn’t need anything but a guitar and a piano to move you.
