Fronted by David Hodges, formerly of Evanescence and supposedly immortalized in the song “Never Again” by Kelly Clarkson (and other songs by Clarkson), Trading Yesterday never actually released More Than This due to leaving Epic Records before it was slated for release. That, of course, doesn’t mean the album hasn’t been on the internet for a long time now.
More Than This has your normal ‘feeder’ songs for Christian radio stations, but it’s the slower tracks where the almost majestic lyrics of Hodges really stand out. “Shattered” and “Love Song Requiem” are brilliant and would have been worthy singles had the album been released. Overall, while it’s predictable in its arrangements, the lyrics make this ‘album’ a well-rounded debut.
