I stumbled across this last night and couldn’t get over the good quality of this vid and the fact that the vidder actually caught Macdonald’s explanation of the song at the beginning too! If you can’t understand her accent, you’re on your own.
Apparently the video for Anberlin’s first single off of their newest album New Surrender was released a month ago and I never knew about it. This video is sort of ‘mainstream’ and doesn’t make nearly as strong an impact as their video for The Unwinding Cable Car. But since Anberlin is now on a major record label it only makes sense that the stylizing of their videos matches their budget. If that isn’t enough for you, it’s a good song. Period.
So yeah, everyone knows Animal Collective’s newest Merriweather Post Pavilion was released in January and it’s already reached #13 on Billboard. We also know how much the professional music critics out there love this album. Well, in an effort to lampoon the critics (which I love doing), I finally got my hands on a copy. Unfortunately my friends, there is very little to lampoon here. The entire album’s very strange and very charming, yet so basic that it really makes you wonder if assigning musical genres is worth the effort when a group like Animal Collective can so easily reach across every single genre possible yet sound coherent at the same time.
Before I actually give a review for the album, take a gander at their trippy music video for their first single, “My Girls.” It may sound like nothing amazing at first, but once you read the lyrics, it will seem almost profound. Yes, I’m sober. Just watch the thing, will you?
