Goodbye (for now?)

Well kids, a lot has happened since my last post in November. Along the way I realized that writing in here had become an assignment instead of a natural result of my love for music. And now that my professional life has gone into overdrive, it’s time for me to officially cover the furniture and close the doors on this place for what looks to be the next four years.

Maybe I’ll come by at the end of those four years, blow the dust off, and start again. Or maybe I’ll never come back. But the old posts will remain up until hell, high water, or the server crashes in an epic disaster of some sort. As for the tune_review twitter account, that too will remain up, and may even be updated regularly. It’s easier to give a drive-by mention of a band and a link in 140 characters than it is to write out a semi-coherent review, and you might even get more music blips via Blip.fm.

I wish you all the best in your constant search for new music. And remember, the blogroll on the right is there for a reason, people – use it wisely.

P.S. – For those of you reading this via Livejournal and Tumblr, the same applies. Only the Twitter and Blip.fm accounts will remain active.

Blogging Resumes June 1st.

And this, my friends, is why I will never make it as a professional blogger (or any sort of blogger in general, actually). In my defense I’ve had a lot of personal stuff going on and my non-musical and non-internet life has been taking off like crazy so I’m tried to find a modicum of peace. I found it, but I ignored everything else at the same time.

June is now the month for female singer/songwriters. Still accepting suggestions, so shoot me an email at awaitstheday@gmail.com!

See you on the flip side.

May Is For Women

May Women's Month

“A man has every season while a woman only has the right to spring.” – Jane Fonda

May is for women… around here, at least.

I’ve been getting a lot of submissions from female-fronted bands and I’ve been finding quite a few great female artists on my own. Now, I’ll admit that I don’t necessarily pay attention to music by women because I’ve had a long-standing love affair with the male voice since I was born. But with this recent influx of great music, I’m ready to change my horizons. And to highlight some of the good stuff I’ve gotten, I’ll be posting what I have so far in the month of May.

But I need more suggestions and submissions! And that’s where you, as the reader, comes in.

First, let me explain what I mean by a ‘female-fronted band.’ To take a very popular example, Evanescence is (or was?) an example of a female-fronted band. Amy Lee was the main vocalist and pretty much the ‘frontman’ of the group. Or, another good example is Paramore.

On the other hand, I would not consider a band such as The Stars as ‘female-fronted.’ Amy Millan is definitely in nearly every song, but she shares the vocal spotlight with Torquil Campbell, who is male.

So leave a comment and/or shoot me an email at awaitstheday@gmail.com. Feel free to spread the word to any artists/bands you think would be interested in getting a review!
