I’ve mentioned before that my musical education pop began in 1997. Well, I still remember the single “Criminal” from that time as one of the songs that really shaped my musical tastes, and my recent ‘rediscovery’ of this album only makes me appreciate Fiona Apple that much more.

Surfacing was Sarah McLachlan’s fourth album, but it still stands as her most popular album to date. This was the one that earned her her Grammy’s, but in comparison to her previous albums, Surfacing falls short.

If there is a Queen of Piano Pop, the title would belong to Sarah McLachlan (Piano Pop’s King would be Billy Joel, in my book). I should point out that every single one of McLachlan’s records have sold Platinum+, and she’s yet to release anything that still doesn’t create new fans or satisfy her old ones.
