In an age of one-man electropop shows like Justin Timberlake or Imogen Heap, it’s hard to find an actual band behind the name. Yet here are the Stars to disprove that notion, and just about any other notion you could possibly have about this Canadian group.
Heart isn’t their debut album, nor is it their absolute best. Despite those daunting realities about it, it still has a timeless quality that very few albums do these days. Every song on this beatifully crafted piece of work is seamless with the one before and after it. It’s such a cohesive unit that it’s a travesty to choose one song above all the others that stands out the most. Every song has its moment and it’s lyric of brilliancy.
Unless you’re prepared to enjoy the genre of music that the Stars fall into, you won’t appreciate this album. It requires a slow heartbeat, an empty mind, and careful listening. Beware: once you’re through “Look Up” and “Elevator Love Letter,” you might find your faith in humanity restored.
