In their self-titled sophomore album, As Tall As Lions have created a truly great and unique mix of various genres that is distinctively their own. While most of the lyrics of the songs here seem inordinately obsessed with the idea of love, the musical arrangements borrow from R&B, alternative, rock, and even Latin music to give each song a freshness that you can’t find anywhere else. Lead singer Dan Nigro’s vocals have a delicacy that calls to mind everyone from Chris Martin of Coldplay to Marc Anthony. Some people might consider this album a disappointment because of the lack of clear-cut radio singles, but I believe that ‘weakness’ is their strength. By not pandering to the traditional ear, each song flows effortlessly into the next in heart-pounding rhythm. In that way, As Tall As Lions has ensured that their album with stay with you long after you’ve stopped listening.
